What happens if I switch broadband provider?
When you switch broadband provider, your existing line usually stays the same and your service is transferred to your new provider. In most cases, there is little or no downtime during the switch.
Switching on the same network
If you are switching between providers that use the same broadband network, the physical line into your property usually remains unchanged.
Your service is simply transferred from your old provider to your new provider. This normally happens remotely and does not require an engineer visit.
On the day of the switch, you may experience a short interruption to your connection while the new service becomes active.
Once the switch is complete, you will usually just need to connect your new router.
Switching between different networks
If you are switching between different broadband networks, the process can be slightly different.
In these cases, a new line may need to be installed into your property. This usually requires an engineer appointment.
Once the new service is active, your previous broadband service will be automatically closed as part of the switching process.
Will I lose internet during the switch?
Most switches happen with minimal downtime, often just a short interruption while the service transfers between providers.
Your new provider will confirm the switch date, and your new service should become active on or around this date.
