How do I activate my SIM card?

In most cases, your SIM card activates automatically once it connects to the mobile network. Simply insert the SIM into your device and turn it on. Your service should become active within a few minutes.

Using your SIM in a mobile phone
To activate your SIM in a mobile phone:

  1. Insert the SIM card into your phone. You may need to adjust the SIM to the correct size.
  2. Turn your phone on.
  3. If prompted, enter the PIN provided with your SIM. This is usually printed on the SIM card packaging.
  4. Your phone should connect to the mobile network within a few minutes.

In most cases, the SIM will activate automatically once it connects to the network. You may receive a welcome message confirming that your service is live.

Using your SIM in a mobile broadband router
If you are using your SIM for mobile broadband (for example in a 4G or 5G router):

  1. Insert the SIM card into the SIM slot on the router.
  2. Turn the router on.
  3. Wait a few minutes while the router connects to the mobile network.
  4. Check the router’s signal lights to confirm it has connected.

Once connected, you can connect your devices (such as phones, laptops, tablets, or smart TVs) to the router’s Wi‑Fi network using the Wi‑Fi name and password printed on the router label.

What to do if your SIM does not activate
If your SIM does not activate straight away, try the following:

  • Restart your phone or router
  • Check that mobile data is enabled in your device settings
  • Wait a few minutes for the device to register on the network
