All about you from the moment you order
When you sign up to Onestream, you’ll go through a simple online process, and we’ll ask you to securely choose your SSID, a password and router settings exactly as you want them.
When your router arrives, it really is a case of plug and play – power it up, use your device to connect using your chosen password, and off you go.
What’s in a name?
We’ve all tried to connect to Wi-Fi only to be faced with a long list of possible connections with baffling names. We make it easy for you, and anyone you allow to use your Wi-Fi, to spot the right one.
When you sign up to Onestream you’ll be invited to set your router’s personalised name – technically known as the Service Set Identifier (SSID).
You can name the connection after yourself, your pet, or the location you’re in. Or, if you prefer, go for an in-joke or something that makes you smile – we’ve seen some funny options including WiBelieveICanFi, IPronounceYouManAndWi-Fi, PrettyFlyForaWi-Fi, and WiNot?
If you’re joining us from another provider and already have a secure SSID and password, you can choose to keep those credentials when you join us.
What’s the password?
We all know that hackers and fraudsters can make the internet a risky place for those who don’t take measures to protect themselves.
Despite this, recent research suggests that more than half of people have never adjusted any of their router’s settings, and a worrying 86% stick with the device’s default password.
That’s like leaving the front door open for hackers, putting your personal and financial information at risk.
By choosing your secure, personalised password at setup, you greatly reduce the risk of anyone using your connection without your knowledge.
We’d recommend you use a password that’s hard to guess but easy for you to remember – you could base it on the first letters of words in a phrase that means something to you, or a favourite song lyric, or anything that means something to you.
We’ll ask you for your password during our secure sign-up process, and when your router arrives it will already be programmed so you know you’re safe from the very start.
For extra security, we also offer high-quality protection from hackers and viruses through market-leading products from McAfee and NordVPN. You’ll be given the option to add these to your connection when you join us.
Safe and secure
You should never give out your personal details to anyone, and your Wi-Fi SSID and password are just for you and those you want to use them.
You don’t even need to worry about sharing your information with Onestream. Although we’ll ask you for some information when you sign up with us, all the choices you make about your router’s SSID settings and password are encrypted, so they are fully secure.
Those details get sent directly to the router, which is automatically programmed without anyone ever seeing your password.
Be our guest
Sometimes you might have a visitor who needs to use your Wi-Fi, but you don’t want to give them access to the main connection. This might include visiting tradespeople, or people who are temporarily staying over.
No problem – we’ve got you covered. Once you’ve got your router, you can allocate part of your connection as a guest network. This is totally separate from your main network, with its own SSID and password.
This option isn’t part of the initial setup, but if you’d like to use it, our friendly team will talk you through every step.
Keep your family safe online
The internet is a fantastic education resource and way for the youngsters in your life to learn, play games, and keep in touch with their friends. However, we all know that online, as in life, we need to set boundaries to keep them safe.
Onestream customers have the option to set up a whole host of parental controls and other options to make sure the younger people in your life are protected.
You can choose a range of options, for example to block or allow sites, control what times the Wi-Fi is active, and lock out specific devices after a set bedtime. You’ll need to make these changes once your router is up and running, but our team of specialists is on hand to help.
Keep your existing router
